Nature Seychelles’ Conservation Boot Camp is now on PANORAMA – Solutions for a Healthy Planet, a platform dedicated to the documentation and promotion of inspiring, replicable solutions across a range of conservation and sustainable development topics to encourage cross-sectoral learning and inspiration. The popular website received 95,000 website visits, solutions from 117 different countries and solution seekers located in 175 countries in 2019.
This is the third solution to be submitted and accepted by the platform. Nature Seychelles has previously submitted the Reef Rescuers and the crowdfunding effort to equip Cousin Island Special Reserve with solar power, both firsts in their fields.
The CBC solution describes the building blocks for this out-of-the-box “roughing it” conservation training based on Cousin Island that has equipped nearly 100 young people from over 20 countries with in-the-field skills.
The program uses Cousin Island Special Reserve, Seychelles – a 50-year-old conservation success – as a training laboratory. At the same time, the program acts as another sustainable funding mechanism for the protected area. It has been financially supported by the GOS-UNDP-GEF Protected Area finance project from April 2016 to December 2019.
