As part of a social media campaign by UNWTO, Christopher Mahoune, a senior warden on Cousin Island shared his personal story on his involvement with tourism in order to boost Africa’s potential as a vibrant and diverse tourist destination.

Saturday 8 May was both World Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day. Although Seychelles is not on major migratory flyways such as those on the continent, we do get migratory birds. Of particular note are migrant shorebirds and waders that can be seen during certain times of the year.

Scientific research carried out on the iconic Seychelles warbler on Cousin Island Special Reserve by an international consortium of European universities ground to a halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on travel. Fortunately, this year three Ph.D. students were able to come to Cousin to collect data, albeit with a few false starts.

Nature Seychelles has entered a new exciting phase in its decade-long reef restoration project carried out in the Marine Protected Area of Cousin Island Special Reserve. The NGO has received a grant from the Adaptation Fund through UNDP and the Government of Seychelles as part of a large regional project with Mauritius and is set to leap-frog into the third and next level of its restoration program. This new project will look at novel techniques from overseas in coral genetics and reproduction.
