Volunteers on Cousin Island help Dr Johanna Storm collect magpie robin data on the island

The Seychelles Magpie Recovery Team (SMART) has just met for the bi-annual meeting to discuss the state of the Seychelles Magpie Robin. The meeting held at Nature Seychelles’ Conservation Centre on Praslin was attended by representatives from Cousin, Cousine, Aride, and Denis Islands as well as Ronley Fanchette from the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

An excavator, a couple of hours of dredging and several mounds of sand later, water flows freely once again in and out of the wetland. During this dry season grey herons and moorhens have been spotted on several occasions fishing in the more open areas of The Sanctuary as the water levels would sometimes drop considerably in their usual, more hidden spots.

When I first arrived on Cousin Island Special Reserve I was struck by the variety of wildlife and beautiful scenery - the white glistening beaches surrounding the island, the magnificent view from the top of the central hill and the abundance of wildlife on land and in the ocean.

Green yoga - for your body, mind and soul

Dust off your mats and head to The Sanctuary. Nature Seychelles is offering new Green Yoga sessions at the eco-kiosk in Roche Caiman. The classes will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 pm and on Wednesday mornings from 9 to 10 am.
